Brief Story of the Drum
In 2002 some of the Twin Cities danznates went to Mexico to learn more about danza and long history and traditions behind today's danza.
While there we were introduced to a family of drum, instument and wood carvers that have been doing this for many generations. This family is highy respected and well known for their work.

Here is the tree stump from the tree that fell naturally and dried for a long time before the carving began. This tree was well over one hundred years old when it fell.

The family suggested to us the above design to be carved - twice. The drum would be so large this design would fit around the drum twice.

The family does their carving at the fathers home.
The father and son would oversee the making of this drum

In this phots are Twin Cities danzantes, a master danza instuctor in Mexico City and two family members.
NOTE: We did not use names of people in these photos.
